Cover

Here's a rough of the cover. Still a little more work to do, I understand, but...pretty cool, huh?

I hate it. It looks too much like a comic book and I don't really think it fits the subject matter.

Really? I thought it was quite eye-catching; which is sort of the point of a book's cover, after all. It also reflects the original title idea- which changed somewhere along the way, though it remains as a cover page.

Now that you bring this up, I hope nobody's anticipating a nihilistic diatribe, replete with dark imagery only an emo-kid could appreciate. I'm up front about the mess I think we're in, and I certainly don't think I've sugar-coated anything. But I have to keep somewhat of a sense of humor about the whole deal; that's part of who I am.

Hm, now I'm thinking about an antinatalist joke book: 'How many antinatalists does it take to screw in a lightbulb? None. They'd rather sit in the dark.'

Or maybe a dating guide: "Hey, baby, want to not make a baby tonight?"

Or perhaps a mystery: Schopenhauer killed Nietzsche in the sitting room with a candelabra for bastardizing his life's work.

Seriously, I have been contemplating a novella with an antinatalistic theme. Maybe an apocalyptic sci-fi action adventure, only this time the world really does end up sleeping with the fishes.

I don't mind, but if you want to make it look less like a comic book, make the picture smaller and in black-and-white, and typeset the words in a traditional serious-looking font, like Benetar's book.

What was the original title? I don't quite get the symbolism. The cover certainly doesn't remind me of your blog.

The working title was 'Caught in the Jaws of Ouroborus', which is still mostly retained on a cover page. There are many symbolic interpretations, but the way I've always seen it is life eating itself to maintain its own survival...

Ouroborus, that hungry snake,
found nought of what he might partake.
In desperate straits, his tail he curled,
then ate himself and shat the world.

On a side note...my god! I haven't been over to your blog for awhile, but I've got to say yours is the most cornucopious blog I've ever read! I honestly don't know how you manage to track so many subjects, and from so many angles. You're a clearinghouse of information and opinion. Kudos!
